0:01:40 (Rev’s Interruption BackGround Music 1: Le Fakir de La Chapelle by Pascal Comelade off of Sampler Collector)

I hope Mark Growden’s rousing rendition Star Spangled Benz has got you feeling good and patriotic because today, the fifteenth day of April, your income taxes are due. I know there’s not much I can do to make it feel better handing over a big chunk of your hard-earned check to a government you’re sure is misusing it, but we’re going to try. So let’s dive head-first right into it with Ms. Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings planting the idea “What If We All Stopped Paying Taxes?”

0:02:55) What If We All Stopped Paying Taxes? By Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings off of Soul Time!

0:07:20) Taxes by Chris Rock off of Born Suspect

0:09:10) Lost Touch by Ceschi off of Sad, Fat, Luck

0:12:30) Pumpin’ 4 the Man by Ween off of Pure Guava

0:14:00 (Rev. Interruption BackGround Music 2: Dance Of The Gypsy Girls by Igor Stravinsky off of Petrushka)

That was Pumpin’ 4 the Man by Ween. And right before that Pure Guava we heard from Ceschi with Lost Touch from his beautifully soul-crushing album Sad, Fat, Luck. Before Ceschi we heard an old bit from Chris Rock entitled Taxes. And we started it off a protest song from Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. But we all know what would happen if we Stopped Paying Taxes, we’d wind up on the news or Cops.

0:14:55) Cops Theme by H20 off of Show & Tell: A Stormy Remembrance of TV Themes

Sometimes there’s nothing better than The Vocal Stylings of Imani Coppola. If you were here for New Years Day, or the last day of Black History Month, you shouldn’t be surprised to hear from her again. That was her giving us some Fast Money from one of her more difficult to find albums. But fortunately I was able to find a where you can get an obscene amount of her music, and stuff you can’t find anywhere else, so criminally cheep I felt bad about it. NimBitMusic.com. Throw her your money. She wasn’t joking about being a starving artist, and you know how we feel about our independent artists. If you want them to keeping making your life better with their stuff, support them!

Immediately preceding the marvelous Ms. Coppola we had Willie Nelson with “If You Get My Money, I Won’t Do Time” or something like that. Before which we had a couple of fun ones from Bill Hicks album Rant In E-Minor. And we began it all with a remake of the theme from Cops by the H20.

0:27:15) The Taxman Cometh by Flora Greysteel off of Flora Greysteel EP

0:30:30) Pay the Price (Instrumental) by Deltron 3030 off of Event II (Deluxe Version)

0:33:25) Tax Man Max from SchoolHouse Rock!

0:36:25) Sunny Afternoon by Tom Jones [feat. Space] off of Reload

0:39:50 (Rev. Interruption BackGround Music 4: Swedish Wedding March by Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire off of Thrills)

I hope you’re enjoying our show today, and aren’t letting anyone give you shit about what you like, not even you! If you wanna dance around to Tom Jones who cares what anyone thinks. From his perfect time-capsule from the turn of  the century Reload that was him with Space covering the old Kinks tune Sunny Afternoon. (In Britain, in the middle sixties, the Progressive government imposed new taxes on the wealthy, so a lot  “progressive” bands like the Kinks, Beatles, and The Who wrote “protest songs” about it.) Before that we  had an old-school Schoolhouse Rock warning about Tax Man Max. And previously to Max Man we had a lovely melody entitled Pay the Price from that perfect combination of Dan the Automator, Kid Koala, And Del the funky Homosapien, Deltron 3030. Like Cunninlynguists I always try to get the Deluxe Versions with the instrumentals, totally worth it. And we began it all of with the Flora Greysteel bashing their piano to The Taxman Cometh.

0:42:20) Need Some Money by John Lee Hooker off of That’s My Story

0:44:40) Taxman by The Beatles off of Revolver

0;47:10) Ex-Millionaire Mambo by FireWater off of International Orange!

0:51:00) Self-made Man by Cable Ties off of Far Enough

0:54:40 (Rev. Interruption BackGround Music 5: I Work Hard (Instrumental) by Pillowfight off of Pillowfight)

We begin with Mr. John Lee Hooker, and I must admit it was the Beatles version of Need Some Money that I’d heard first, but originally its a Berry Gordy song. And Mr. Hooker’s come out 3 years before the Beatles. After thar came their song Taxman. After the Beatles we heard Firewater with Ex-Millionaire Mambo off International Orange!. And lastly we had Cable Ties telling us the story of The Self-made Man.

And what I’m talking over now is just the Instrumental part of the Pillowfight track I Work Hard.

We began sharing those strange and interesting sounds with the Mississippi Sheiks figuring out how to deal with Sales Tax. Then came Michael Franti & Spearhead telling us of all the things people have to do to get Tha Payroll (Stay Strong). After which we heard Hillbilly Hellcats admitting they just Did It For The Money.
